Earlier situation of Tilganga River:

Somewhere around  20 to 25 years ago, the Tilaganga river used to flow for 9 to 10 months. For a few years, the Tilganaga river used to flow only for 4 to 5 months in the rainy monsoon.

In spite of having 450 to 900 mm rainfall, all the water was flowing away due to the following reasons.

  1. The Tilganga river basin was filled with silt and narrowed due to silt and encroachment Garvelly had grown and spread in the basin.
  2. All the Bandhara were useless due to leakage, collapse and accumulation of silt, so there was no storage of water resultantly no recharge of groundwater. Therefore, as soon as the rainy season ended, a water shortage-like situation was created within a short period of time. In summer, the water well used to dry up, which leads to scarcity of drinking water also.

Tilganga Civilisation Development Program was decided to be undertaken by “Gramprakash Swarajya Bahuudeshiya Sanstha, Peth” under the guidance of watershed & Environment experts.

Old Bandhara – desilting, widening & deepening of the basin, removal of leakages and necessary repairs to make old bandhara useful for storage of water

New Dams– Construction of more new dams on river Tilganga & also construction of CNB & KOPA Bandhara etc

River Basin – cleaning of the river basin by removing gravel, silt and encroachment. Also, widening of the basin according to Tehsil Survey & demarcation

Aiming to overcome water scarcity by increasing rainwater storage in watershed structures which leads to increase in water recharge of nearby areas to raise the water table.

In the Tilganga Civilisation Development Programme, maximum works were planned to be done through public awareness & public participation and wherever necessary, the support of the Government’s Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan was planned to be taken.

In the Tilganga Civilisation development program, all the members & supporters of “Gram Prakash” organization have done the work of creating positivity in their minds about the people’s participation by visiting the villagers from village to village, holding meetings and exchanging ideas with them and informing them again and again about the Tilganga Civilisation development program.
